PsychoCola asked:

If you’ve had your cholesterol levels measured recently, post them and say whether or not you’re eating a “cholesterol-free diet”, if you catch my drift.

I’m curious to see what effect a cholesterol-free diet has on cholesterol levels.

My HDL’s 51, my LDL’s 36, my triglycerides are 106, and I am on a cholesterol-free diet.

Madison asked:

I am so disappointed. I had blood work done 5 months ago and my HDL was 31 (which was low then). The normal is 40-60, the higher the better. Since then, I’ve lost 21 lbs., have been exercising like crazy and eating good. I had blood work redone last week and now my HDL is 25! What is going on here!? It is so frustrating. My other numbers are good – my total cholesterol went down 20 points and it is at 139. My LDL (bad) cholesterol went down 16 points and it’s at 86. My triglycerides went up 10 points but still normal at 142. My A1C went down .2 points and it’s 5.4 now. But the HDL I do not understand it going down 6 points when I’ve done so good! What can I do to get it to go up?

Ms.Kimchi asked:

I just had a simple blood test and my triglycerides are norma (103) and I got a good low LDL (bad cholesterol) level…107.

But my HDL is only 38! I was overweight three months prior to taking the blood test and during the three months prior to the test I lost 30lbs. The three months before the test, I’ve been eating mostly nutrient foods (poultry, veggies, and fruit). I also exercise regularly.

What else can I do to raise my HDL levels? What foods may help? Why is my HDL level so low when everything else is good.
I will also be seeing a doctor once my health insurance kicks in, but just wanted to hear what others have to say.

Ishamael asked:

I have triglecorites inherited from my dad, so my diet has nothing to do with it. The doctor prescribed me Tricor, I take Omega 3 fish oil pills. My doctor still wants my triglicerites a little lower, I don’t want to be on another medication. I am looking for advice for something else over the counter that is natural and will go along with my fish oil.
