The thought of exercise and fun doesn’t work hand in hand with a lot of people, but bouncing on the bed was always fun when you were a child and bouncing on exercise trampolines is nearly as much fun. I think that we had so much fun bouncing on the bed as children, not so much for the actual bounce, but the anticipation of getting caught doing it. But that is beside the point, bouncing is fun and it can make the tedious job of exercise also fun.

Nevertheless the fact that exercise can be totally boring to some people has not escaped the manufacturers and designers of sports equipment. Exercise undertaken on these mini trampolines is known as “rebounder exercise” and it gives a great workout, while remaining gentle on the joints and muscles. If you enjoy intense exercise, you can make your routine as intense as you like.

It does take time to get used to this form of exercise as balance is pivotal. It may take as much as a week for some people to get the idea, whereas others get it in a day. It is just a matter of balance really.

It is advised that exercise taken on these small trampolines be done whilst wearing soft shoes, to protect the feet from injury. But some people actually do this barefoot, soft-soled jazz dance shoes are generally more than adequate.

Like all exercise, rebounder routines have tp start slowly, with more complex movements being added as you improve. Warm ups and cool downs are also important and gentle bouncing and walking movements on the trampoline will accomplish this.

Depending on your level of fitness, once you have done five or six different exercises, you will be sweating, but it is also pretty much guaranteed you will be smiling too – the perfect exercise combination. You can find many examples of rebounder exercises online. If you purchase your exerciser online it will more than likely come together with a series of different exercises for different fitness levels.

Balance in the beginning may be a problem, but this is easily overcome by placing the equipment next to a wall, or some other sturdy structure you can reach out and touch to regain balance. When you first start your exercise routine, gentle bounces are fine. You will soon become confident enough to bounce higher and this is when you really benefit.

Warm up and cool down with a basic walk, and increase your heart rate with a basic jog. Eventually you will progress to the heel-toe bounce, jumping jacks, and other jazzy exercises, but one thing you will be guaranteed is great fitness and great fun!!
